In 2004, Experience Music Project opened up the Science Fiction Museum—very nice. Now, aside from music, EMP | SFM also features artifacts from science fictions, such as Captain Kirk’s command chair, the giant Alien queen and so much more.

Experience Music Project was created in 2000 and its mission was to explore American popular music. Since its inception, millions of people have poured through the doors—and they’re waiting for you.

You can’t miss the EMP building. The beautiful building is located right next to the famous Space Needle. It’s huge and eye-catching. The colorful exterior of the EMP building reflects what it is inside. Just like great music that hits the spot, you’ll feel highly energized the moment you walk inside.

Once there, you’ll view thousands of rare and exciting artifacts and nostalgic memorabilia from popular music legends—Jimi Hendrix, Heart, Pearl Jam, and Queensryche just to name a few. There’s something special about being surrounded by musicians telling their own stories in their own words.

Just like any real museum, the EMP | SFM has featured exhibits. Usually these exhibits stick around for six months, so you definitely have time to catch your favorite ones.

Some of the permanent exhibitions include: Sound and Vision: Articles Tell Their Stories, Northwest Passage, Guitar Gallery, Homeworld, Fantastic Voyages, Brave New Worlds, and Them.

EPM | SFM does offer a membership option and admission is then free. Non-member adults (18-64) will pay $15, which isn’t bad at all. Seniors pay $12 as do kids ages 5 – 17. Children ages 4 and younger are free and student and military get in for $12 with I.D.

So, when you’re making your Seattle itinerary, which likely includes sights such as the Space Needle, make sure to include the Experience Music Project & Science Fiction Museum.
